Quick weight loss and anything related to fad diet plans are all an unwelcome alternative to permanent healthy eating habits, as stated by the American Heart Association and numerous other health experts as it included a high level of sodium (salt) which is bad for the heart.

So in reality what is a fad diet?  It’s a heavily promoted diet with some strange ideas on how to lose weight in an impossible and unhealthy manner, usually by consuming nothing more than one food like a cabbage.

You Need More Than One Food Group

One food or one type of food is generally over emphasized with fad quick weight loss diets. They violate the basic rules of good healthy nutrition which is to eat a balanced diet that includes a mixture of foods.

The effects of staying on this diet for a few weeks even if you could, potentially you could develop health related nutritional deficiencies, because no one food group has all the nutrients a living person needs for good health.

The Cabbage Soup Diet is known as one such diet. This well-known and heavily promoted fat-burning soup is served mostly with fruits and vegetables. The diet apparently assists heart patients lose 10 to 17 pounds in seven days before surgery. 

Whether these weight loss claims are true or not, all the damage that can be done due to a lack of many vital dietary nutrients would far outweigh the intended benefits and efforts of losing the weight.

Disinterest and bland food isn’t the only reason fad diets aren’t good for you.  Most don’t implement any exercise at all , such as walking for weight loss or any form of aerobics for 30 minutes a day every day.

Physical activity helps maintain healthy weight loss, while physical inactivity is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. When you hear a diet that mentions “no need to exercise” run away as far as you can, or at least fire up your treadmill and go for a run.

Quick weight loss is achievable in the right program and with exercise. But if a program sounds too good to be true, it usually is and in some cases can be dangerous to your health.
