The Cookie Diet

The cookie diet may possibly take the cake as the world’s worst ever fad diet. In essence this diet states that amino acids baked into cookies can control hunger.

Fad diets seem to be all over the world these days. In general a fad diet is a diet which is designed to last for short periods of time, during which large amounts of weight can allegedly be lost.

As with many of these do called miracle diets like the cookie diet, they all seem to depend on one miracle food that claims to have amazing properties for weight loss.

In saying this, you should be able to see how they are something like the old traveling medicine shows of the wild west days, in which a slick talking salesman would expound on the virtues of some magical formula that would solve all the weight problems of the world created by a Guru of some type.

Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet – More than half a million people have used his cookies to lose weight. Now it’s your turn! Or Is It?

So Where Did This Diet Originate From?

The cookie diet was conceived by a physician known as Sanford Siegel in 1975 while he was studying for a book on the effects of natural foods on human hunger. To abide by the cookie diet individuals would consume six cookies every day, plus a normal dinner. Persons on the fat loss diet ate only 800 calories a day.

Many people went absolutely crazy over the cookie diet to the degree that 14 centers were opened in Florida alone.

By the 1980’s 200 or so doctors were promoting this very popular cookie diet. Some other very clever doctor tried to capitalize on this popularity and came out with soups and shakes that also contained the amino acids needed to control hunger all on the coat tails of his famed diet.

Hollywood Celebs Created Their Own

Later many Hollywood superstars grabbed their own version of the cookie diet. This diet was given a great deal of media attention in part because of the marketing and promotion efforts of attention grabbing stars and starlets.  The same as the original cookie diet the Hollywood version also replaced breakfast and lunch with the amino acid cookies, then allowed a reasonable dinner to be eaten.

Even today there are many weight loss programs on the market that still use the same principles.

The four cookies permitted on this diet consisted of a combined 600 calories and various vitamins.

Is It Right For You!

If you are considering the cookie diet you need to take the advice of Donnie Brasco’s and forget about it. Eat less and make it healthy food, exercise more that’s the formula for good health.  In truth this is a much healthier way to lose or maintain perfect weight rather than relying on some flash in the pan miracle food or diets, even if it is endorsed by someone famous that you recognize from your favorite movie.

You need to remember that diets like these are only effective, if at all while you are on the program. They very rarely teach you how to eat properly or even what foods you should be eating to keep the weight off.
