Legumes, in particular, provide a great source of fibre to any diet but both are excellent in the fat fighting department! They keep the bowels functioning correctly and stabilise blood sugar. Soy will help to break down the amount of fat that is stored in your body. Beans contain approximately 150 calories per one-half cup. Include them in chilli, soups and salads.

Garlic and Onions

If you can get past the smell, then these two foods will prove to be an unstoppable fat burning team! They both are made up of phytochemicals that go to work immediately to break down fat in the body. They also help to fight the build-up of cholesterol. Garlic and onions can even fight off many types of bacteria, fungi and viruses.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are very rich in both vitamin C and a phytochemical called lycopene. Tomatoes encourage the production of an amino acid called carnitine. Carnitine improves the body’s ability to burn fat by as much as one third.

Nuts

As long as you’re not allergic to nuts, then start eating them now!

Nuts that are raw and unsalted are good for the body because they contain essential fatty acids that help to burn fat. They are also good for the heart as they lower the risk of heart attacks by as much as 60 percent. Nuts are a versatile food that can either be eaten alone or added to a selection of dishes.

They can also be sprinkled on plain yoghurt to give it more flavour.
