Finding A Diet That Works
Lots of people need to drop weight, and lots of people are always on the look out for diets that work.
The issue isn’t really finding a diet plan that works, but rather finding a diet to which a person can stick.
Between books, diet food programs, trainers and nutritionists, spas, and all the other parts of the health and diet industry a lot of money, over 46.8 billion dollars in 2005, is pulled in not from people becoming healthy or losing weight, but rather from people trying to become healthy or lose weight.
Because repeat business brings in the cash, the focus is naturally on methods and products that work for a short time but result in return business.
So you want a diet that works?
Here’s one. Combine limiting caloric intake to 1000 calories a day with at least 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 days a week. That diet will result in shedding weight. But there are two problems.
The first is that cravings will ruin the diet.
Sooner or later, particularly after returning home from work outs, those 1000 calories won’t be sufficient to satisfy. First it’s a potato chip or slice of cake, then it’s an extra hot dog and the whole bag of chips, and then the diet is over. #2 the diet eventually finishes.
You eventually go back to eating the identical old way.
Next beach season, or next time to try on that dress or tuxedo, or next vacation, or simply the next time you glance at a looking glass on the way out of the gym it will be once again be diet time.
The best diet is a permanent diet. More and more people are coming to realize that to lose weight it’s best to change lifestyle, including healthier eating habits and more physical activity.
Connie Guttersen created the Sonoma Diet which, as a base, discusses ten “power foods.”
The power foods are almonds, bell peppers, blueberries, broccoli, grapes, olive oil, spinach, strawberries, tomatoes and whole grains, combined with the diet of the Sonoma country, which includes Asian, Latin American and Mediterranean foods and dishes.
The diet includes a wide variety of real, and enjoyable foods so it’s easy to stay on it .
Need a diet that works? Shift the focus away from a short term diet to a long term style that’s part of an overall healthy and active lifestyle.
That’s the way to not only lose the weight, but to avoid gaining it in the first place.

Can anyone give more list of diet foods?”;’
Choosing a weight loss program isn’t that different from buying a car, you shop around, you make sure you get good value for your dollars. Typically, you want to find a program that fits your lifestyle.
To start, have a clear goal in mind of what you want from this diet. Be realistic and most importantly, keep a journal. Make no commitment to any program until you have done your homework.
These are probably the best ways to lose weight and keep it off.
There are certain foods that KILL belly fat and
others that CAUSE belly fat (and belly bulge) Here are some that will FLATEN that bulge:
Avocados,Peanut Butter,Omelets,Dark Chocolate,Oatmeal,Green Tea,Berries,Cinnamon, Chili Peppers,Yogurt,Wild Salmon and Giant Turkey Legs!
Lifting weights alone is no use. You will only truly bulk up if you have a good complementary muscle gain diet.
I think it’s pretty simple. Just stick to foods you can visualize where they came from, i.e. fruits and veggies, whole meats, and you will be fine. So shop around the edge of the super market. That’s what I do and it’s always worked. Processed foods are the problem, just empty calories.
I absolutely agree that losing weight successfully isn’t really about finding a diet plan that works, but rather finding a diet to which a person can stick with. It can be difficult changing bad habits into good ones, long term. I appreciate what you have said about shifting the focus away from a short term diet to a long term style that’s part of an overall healthy and active lifestyle.
I fall victim to cravings everytime I try to diet. I do good for a while but those cravings are a real killer. I gotta really stop with the junk lol
I have never really struggled with being overweight but I do have friends that have and my mother was heavy for awhile. The thing that they all had in common that helped them is watching “The Biggest Loser” and getting inspired to exercise and change their diets. It was a slow process but one of my friends has lost over 100 pounds!
I am so thankful for that show.

Great tips as many times when trying to lose weight people approach it the wrong way. You have to make exercise and proper nutrition a lifestyle change and a lifetime commitment.
Hi Mike
Yes you are right you really need to have a mind shift in the way you live you life to not only lose weight but keep it off for good. It might only be as simple as walking and cutting out sugar from your diet and eating more fruit and vegetables to get this done.
However it does take determination to maintain your new lifestyle change.
Thanks for the valuable tips!
Nowadays, there’s more and more crappy weight loss products/programs that guarantee lose weight in a short amount of time, but the worst thing isn’t the product/program doesn’t work out well, the worst thing is that it’ is unhealthy or will harm your health! So it’s important to choose them wisely!
Hi Rosa
Yes some of these diets are just absolute rubbish or only have very short term results. At the end of the day it comes down to having some common sense and motivation to reduce your weight even if that just means not having sugar in your coffee and even drinking water instead of soft drinks throughout the day.
Thanks for the list of the “power foods”. Staying in shape for the summer is important for the bikini body! I think that diets aren’t for everyone depending on your lifestyle and what you enjoy/not enjoy eating. Great article to help those find the right one.
Hi Annie and thanks…
There are so many variables and even distractions today that itis hard to determine what is the right diet for you. Hopefully this post will help anyone looking for a good solution find what they need.
I think 1000 calories a day is pretty low, even for someone who’s dieting! Isn’t 1500 a little better? I guess you could still supplement the diet with veggies that have no calories to fill up, but I feel like it still wouldn’t be satisfying at all!
Hi Kayla
Yes I would have to agree with this, I have a friend who has just gone through a diet with reduced calories and they were very active, they now look like they were starved and are constantly tired. However they did lose the weight they wanted however I don’t think it was the way to do it.
The problem with me is that my craving is really cannot be tolerated because if I go on a diet just a little celebration will ruin everything because I will just tell myself it is only once. I have to focus and discipline myself.
changing your eating habits is one of the biggest things you need to do when trying to lose weight
Hi D
Yes you are right this is one of the biggest reasons people fail on diets. They might initially lose weight following the diet but once they reach their desired weight they go off the diet and stop following the diet guidelines, only to find the weight returns. To reduce weight and keep it off your need to make lifestyle changes and your eating habits are probably the most important of all.
I always say that the hardest thing when you’re on diet is not what you eat, but watching what people eat. When I know my friends are eating in a buffet or a full gathering, I stick with fruits and stay away from sweets. But when I can’t control my cravings, I see to it that I burn them the next day by doing some physical activities.
Hi Marc
It is great to see that you have this weight loss thing in perspective and yes it is OK to fail every now and then and eat some of the wrong food as long as you are willing to get straight back into it by doing some exercise to burn off those additional calories.
