Too much of anything is never a good thing; so be sure to pay attention to how much you’re eating at each meal. The main reason why people are overweight due to fatty foods is that they overeat of them. Just like with anything, it takes the time to develop a good diet habit, so give yourself time to start putting all together
Healthy eating should be a way of life.
You won’t be able to stick to proper diet guidelines unless you make up in your mind that you are going to exhibit healthy eating habits no matter who you’re around. If the holidays are coming up, or you’re going out to eat with friends, it’s best to resolve in your mind how much you’re going to eat during these outings, so you don’t lose your discipline.
Just because you’re not making the food yourself doesn’t mean that you can’t control how much you’re eating. If you think about exhibiting a healthful eating plan before you go on outings, you’ll be more likely to stick to it.
Creating a menu plan that is laborious to follow and time-consuming to prepare is nothing more than a plan to fail. Keep the menu plan simple and use where possible natural and foods that are easy to make and that you like to eat.
You should be able to find recipes that suit your needs by doing a quick search online; you may even want to try dishes from other countries as long as they are nutritious and don’t stack on the weight.
Friends and family are also another reliable sources where you can get recipes to suit your busy lifestyle.
Most of all remember to have fun with the food you are making to keep it interesting, and you motivated to a healthier you!
Nutritious Morning Meals
If you think you are too busy to eat breakfast in the morning, much less a nutritious one then think again! There are lots of meals that can be whipped up in no time at all.
For example, try a scrambled egg sandwich with a glass of low fat or skim milk. Or maybe you are a bagel lover. If so then eat a toasted bagel with cheese and a glass of orange juice. Another bagel suggestion is a whole grain bagel with peanut butter and a glass of milk. Or you might want to have a drink of milk followed by a glass of juice.
Mix yoghurt in with your favourite breakfast cereal and add some fruit such as strawberries or blueberries in with it. Sprinkle a little bit of wheat germ or flax seed powder on the top.
If you prefer to drink your breakfast as opposed to eating it, then yoghurt works well as the basis for a smoothie. Mix it with a little milk and fruit and then put it in your blender for a tasty on the go breakfast treat. It is always a good idea to start your day with a glass of water as well. Hydration to launch the day is a must!
Bring Food with You to Work
If finding time to eat your lunch or supper at work is a problem because of meetings, interviews or scheduling issues, bring food with you to work. Choose a desk drawer that you can stock with non-perishable food items such as whole grain crackers, peanut butter, canned or dried fruit, canned tuna, juice boxes and a box of tea.
If you have a refrigerator at work, then you can keep foods such as fruit, raw veggies, juice, milk, yoghurt, hummus, etc. nearby. Make sure you put your name on your food as well as the date. Make sure that you remember to keep a few dishes and some utensils at work. With food at your disposal and no further away than your desk there is no excuse for you not to eat the correct food when you are having a hectic work day!
A Busy Family Schedule
If your family schedule is every bit as busy as your work schedule, then you need to put forethought into planning for meals. Makeup meals ahead of time and freeze them for nights when you don’t feel like cooking and just want to heat something up. Leftovers can also form the basis of meals so make sure you don’t throw out leftovers but use them to create new meals.
Another option is to buy healthy ready-to-eat meals that just require a few minutes in the microwave. Make up a green salad to go with the meal and serve some whole grain rolls. Now you have a complete meal!
