Easy Ways to Prevent Overeating
One of the challenges many people who want to lose weight have is that they tend to overeat a lot.
If you are dieting for weight loss then overeating will have to be controlled or prevented.
The following are some easy ways to prevent overeating.
Do not skip your meals. The truth is, you are likely to become hungrier on the later parts of the day. You will find yourself opening your fridge in the afternoon and evening for food which would lead you to overeating. Remember not to do this just to reserve calories for it always backfires.
Always eat your breakfast. This will keep your blood sugar level and that will surely lessen your appetite and your energy level will be higher. It has been proven by scientist that people who eat breakfast regularly are healthier and are not overweight compared to those individuals who skip it.
Combat Over Eating By Drinking More Fluids
Increase your fluid intake. Consume a lot of water throughout the day and this will help you avoid dehydration. This will also make you feel full which will lessen your tendency to eat more. You can also include water-rich fruits like pineapples, grapefruit, oranges, and melon that will also keep you from feeling hungry.
Make sure that you are getting enough hours of sleep. We tend to eat more when we are tired since our brain signals our body that we need them for energy. Eating food high in carbohydrates gives us energy but it soon fades away as it is being consumed while we do our tasks every day.
To Stop Over Eating You Need A Schedule
Have a regular schedule for your meal. This pattern of diet will help you get rid feeling constantly hungry and really stay in control of what you eat and how much you eat. The ideal pattern to lose weight is by eating something every three hours.
You can do this by simply having small snacks throughout the day and also having several mini meals than having the three large ones.
Stay away from vending machines and fast food since it is usually where unhealthy foods come from. These days, we are too busy that we are prone to get our consumption from those ready to eat servings. Try avoiding soft drinks, bread and fried foods. Instead go for salads, chicken and don’t forget water in your diet.
If you are depressed, seek advice. Do not treat your troubled feelings with food. You can call your best friend or just meet someone you can trust in a quiet place and talk about it rather than eating those high fat and low fiber content foods.
Keep a food diary. You can track the foods and drinks that you eat and get rid of those which are unhealthy.
Spice up your life. Look for things that you like and have the time of your life.

To prevent overeating, I also avoid to eat in front of the TV: last time I snacked in front of the TV, I ate a whole box of chocolates…

Normally, I eat little on breakfast. Eat moderate on lunch. Then, eat heavy on dinner. This is because I feel very hungry during dinner. Anyway, I will correct this eating habit. Thanks for the tips. Nice article!
Hi Rex
Yes this is a good idea to change this around your breakfast is the most important meal of the day not only to give you energy but to also kick start your metabolism so you can start burning calories. You dinner should not be a big meal either, and if it is try to get into the habit of walking after dinner instead of eating and then sitting in front of the TV for the rest of the night.
Keeping food diary is a very good idea. I didn’t believe it would be effective in the past. I thought I would be eating the same thing day in day out. Little did I realize that after I started writing food diary, I found out that my eating pattern was not that regular as I thought it would be. In fact, by writing food diary, I became very conscious of what I was eating. In order to make sure I have something to write for certain food categories, I consciously chose the right food to eat. On the other hand, I also consciously chose not to eat unhealthy food as it would make my food diary not as beautiful. I would personally recommend writing a food diary even as simple as writing down regularly what you eat immediately. You will tend to forget some details if you wait until later at night to write the food diary. After a while, you can see your eating pattern. An expert would be able to point out some blank spot in unhealthy eating habit just by looking at your food diary alone.
Breakfast is something I have learned to eat no matter what. It really can make all the difference. Although, when I drink more fluids in the day, I notice myself getting hungrier, not fuller. Is there any reason that trick doesn’t work for someone like me?
Hi Ava
I am not sure why, water seems to work for me maybe one of our other readers has the answer to that.
Very true. Also, if you’re getting the munchies at night, drink a glass of water with some drops of lemon juice. This will help fill that hunger and keep off the extra calories. Great tips!
Hi Alexis
Great advice this does work to help fill your stomach and to break up the boredom of just having lemon juices you can use other juices just like black current or apple.
Great practices to abide by. I have to admit though, I find it hard to stay away from those silly vending machines because I often need a snack. Any good treat recommendations for snack time?

To avoid overeating. I’am just cooking enough meal for my family. I also, buy fruit rather tha burger or chocolates to lessen the calorie intake.
Drink water before having meal thus that will help you to eat less and eat slowly so that you get bored of eating very soon.It will help you to lose weight and also remember to have balanced diet.
Not skipping meals is a great tip, even if I know I’m going to have a busy day I always try to at least have some snacks to help satisfy me, like a bag of nuts of a banana at least. When I skip I ALWAYS overeat later. And I have depression and definitely eat to ‘help’ with my feelings, but I always end up feeling worse later on or the next day. Honestly, exercise makes me feel a lot better overall than stuffing my face with sweets
this is good advice like you say if you drink water just before a meal you will eat less because you will feel fuller, also when you plan your meals make sure its healthy food you like and eat 5 smaller meals a day
My trainer advise me to precede my meal with apple or raw vegetables. At first, i was like ‘are you serious?”. It sounded ridiculous but when i tried his advise for a week, it did help prevent me from overeating and gives me a fiber boost.
